About IOA

IOA (formerly ICOIA) is a voluntary, informal coalition of International Optoelectronics Associations. Members have corporate membership of OE industry (as opposed to individual membership like OSA), they are national organizations (as opposed to a regional cluster), they represent the voice of industry to the national governments, collect OE market information and generate OE technology roadmaps. Membership is by invitation only.

Members as of April, 2007 are, KAPID (Korea), OIDA (USA), OITDA (Japan), PA(S) (Singapore), PIDA (Taiwan), SOA (Scotland), OpTech-Net (Germany), APIF (Australia), HKOEA (Hong Kong), EPIC (European Union)

Annual membership meetings occur once a year in connection with a major international meeting, symposium or exhibit.  The location of the meeting alternates among member locations and among participating continents. The local association hosts the meeting; the official language is English.

The meeting agenda usually follows the following format:

  1. Production trends in optoelectronics (domestic and global-if available).
  2. Activity report of each organization, including areas of emphasis, new national initiatives, promotion of optoelectronics, etc.
  3. Future growth areas in optoelectronics, most promising areas for R&D, and
  4. Technology roadmaps including a summary and major conclusions of each roadmap.

The 12th annual meeting will take place June 20-22 in Munich, Germany and will be hosted by Optech-Net.
