Scottish Optoelectronics Association (SOA) - Scotland

Date of Establishment: May 13, 2000

Purpose/Mission:
Scottish Optoelectronics Association (SOA) was established to represent and promote the interests of the optoelectronics community in Scotland, the SOA is the Trade Association for Scottish Companies and University Research Departments working in the field of optoelectronics.  The Scottish optoelectronics community vision is that it will exceed global growth rates through market-leading exploitation of research, entrepreneurial spirit and product development for economic benefits.  The SOA’s mission is to support the community in achieving this vision.

Recognising that Optoelectronics is a global industry SOA was a founder member of the ICOIA and also the UKCPO – UK Consortium of Photonics and Optics.  The latter organisation is an umbrella organisation for all associations in the UK with an interest in Optoelectronics.  Within Europe SOA is a partner in a number of Coordination Actions involving other European organisations.

SOA activities include organising networking meetings, conducting industry surveys, producing roadmaps, providing industry information, seeding commercialisation of technology, encouraging training, enabling partnerships between companies and between companies and universities, attracting finance and advising government agencies.
